At Aura Chai we’re passionate about making deliciously authentic chai – and a positive impact. That means all our products are ethically sourced, sustainable and made with love and care.
Next month we’re launching our Deluxe Gift Sets – a luxury step up from our best-selling Chai Latte Gift Set. For this we had to go a little further afield than the UK to source some of the specialist items. It would be super easy to just to go source cheap items in bulk from wholesalers abroad. Instead we focused on quality but also fairness, kindness and doing no harm – important values in the Aura Chai philosophy.
Why do we say no to sweatshops?
It might seem like a silly question – but you’d be surprised how many companies don’t feature this so high on their agenda – even now, when we’re more focused than ever on what we buy and where it comes from. Lots of brands tell us they’re eco-friendly – but are they people friendly?
We believe that it should be possible to buy and enjoy gorgeous treats without doing so at the expense of others. Unfortunately lots of big brands overlook the way their goods are made (and the treatment of the people who make them) to boost their profit margins. They’ll sell ‘luxury’ products with huge price tags, without making sure that the people who make it all possible with their hard work and dedication get a fair deal. All too often it’s revealed that ‘luxury’ items and designer fashion brands are linked with modern slavery, suffering and even child labour.
Aura Chai is all about feeling good – so many of our customers tell us our blends are an important essential in their self care routine. But how can you feel good about something when it’s been made by people who are treated so badly?
Luxury gifts that don’t come at someone else’s expense
Our blends are all handmade by us using ethically sourced, premium ingredients. We make sure we choose fairly traded and sustainably grown, ethically processed tea and spices. Organic ingredients are certified organic by the Soil Association. Bags and packaging are made from sustainable, recyclable paper and card – the inks we use are vegan and biodegradable. It’s not been easy getting this right – it’s taken a lot of time and hard work – but it’s worth it 🙂
Our gorgeous luxury gifts are no different. From our tea strainers to our scoops and our tea pots to our French-made glasses, we’ve taken the time to make sure each supplier operates ethically and fairly.
We source our lovely linen bags from Bags Of Ethics, a wonderful organisation focusing on sustainability and equality – ensuring the people who make their products (a predominantly female workforce) are properly paid and well treated. They’re certified fairtrade, vegan AND organic. We were also able to contribute towards securing education for children in India, where our bags are made. Positive for people and planet 🙂
Each item we source for our gift sets has been lovingly handpicked by Aura Chai founder Rose. We only work with suppliers we know and trust – who can vouch for and guarantee the fair treatment and proper payment of their employees.

International Animal Rescue: Global campaigns and work on the ground to support some of the world’s most endangered species who face suffering and even extinction often due to human intervention and activity.
War Child UK: Charity providing vital emotional support, education, supplies and more for children affected by conflict worldwide.
Miracle’s Mission: Caring for often disabled dogs and rescuing strays and abandoned animals in the Middle East and beyond.
Dogs 4 Rescue: The UK’s first and only free-running, kennel-free rescue, saving dogs who wouldn’t otherwise be given a chance from the UK and further afield.
SOI Dog International: Working throughout Asia to rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats in often life threatening circumstances.
Lend With Care: Helping entrepreneurs in developing countries to build their businesses with micro loans – enabling them to become sustainable and grow their enterprise with fair financial support.
Street Hearts BG: Dedicated dog rescue in Bulgaria where they are often abandoned and abused – running a pioneering neutering programme to solve the stray issue nationally.
